I’m Charles Murphy reporting. Henry County Commissioners hired an architect to design a new fire and county facility in Montura. They voted to extend by six months the lease with Shortcakes Restaurant at the LaBelle Airport. The lease is interested in renewal. They note the busy season is September through May. Commissioner Michael Atkinson made the motion to extend the lease. Busy season is till May or June. To end it in March, right in the middle, is kind of a hard time to transition. And I think, in my opinion, if we do end up going with someone else, we’ve got to give time for transition. It’s not just a, hey, this is the end of the day, you know, you’ve got to find somewhere else. An attempted murder in a shooting in Belle Glade. Palm Beach County Sheriff Deputies arresting Kiera Burks on attempted first-degree murder and firing a missile into a vehicle. Danson reported last week on October 21st in the area of Southwest 6th Street and Southwest Avenue C. The female was wearing all black and shot a firearm, striking the vehicle at 524 Southwest Avenue C at the loading ramp. No one was shot, but the vehicle windshield shattered. A 16-year-old Belle Glade youth reported he was the target of the shooting. There were two people in the vehicle at the time and neither were injured. Video surveillance cameras caught the shooting. Former members of Moorhaven City Council expressed frustration with overgrown lots in the city for more than a year and a lack of code enforcement action. Marcus Decker and Clay Browning wanted to see these lots cleaned up. Somebody’s got to get lost in them. There’s two on Avenue R, you could bail, we could bail, hey, and sell it and make the money back. Palm Beach schools celebrating their A grade as a district again. Schools in the Glades also perform well. Glade Central remain to be. Pahokee Middle High School remain to be. Glade View improved to an A. And Rosenwald Elementary maintaining an A grade. Superintendent Michael Burke says Glade View actually went from a C to an A. We had 38 schools that went up a letter grade, which is over 20 percent of our schools. So we had a strong year. We have a lot to celebrate and we’ve got some positive momentum going into next year and we will continue to set our goals high. Retiring school board member Marsha Andrews says all the schools improved in her district. I do want to shout out to Rosenwald Elementary School with a double A again. Last year an A. They said, oh wow, how could that happen? We did it again at Rosenwald. Glade View, you just heard the superintendent announce, A rated. And then all the B’s, yes, Mr. Ferguson, Glade Central, Pahokee, Middle Senior High School, Lakeshore, just so many schools, so many students doing great work. Henry County deputies say they have arrested a drug trafficker. 27-year-old Raul Trujillo of Lehigh Acres is charged with cocaine trafficking. The arrest in the area of Four Wind Road in Cedarwood. They tried to pull over a speeding motorist on State Road 80. The vehicle registration had been expired since June. The vehicle failed to stop right away, pulled onto Cedarwood Parkway and onto a grassy shoulder on Primrose Lane. The deputy observed a large white object being thrown from the front passenger side window. The vehicle then accelerated southbound but stopped shortly afterward. They went back to where the item had been thrown from the window and found nearly two ounces of cocaine. Trujillo is also charged with fleeing or attempting to elude law enforcement.
