I’m Charles Murphy reporting. A clueless teenager pled to reduce charges in a Harlem shooting on Kentucky Avenue. Roosevelt Adderley was 15 when he allegedly shot and killed another teen near the M&M supermarket on May 29, 2024. A large fight had broken out and shots were fired. The shooting was caught on video. The victim says he got into a fistfight with a man who threatened to shoot him. Roosevelt was seen holding the firearm and shooting towards Kentucky Avenue. Adderley pled no contest to discharging a firearm in public possession of a firearm by a minor, child abuse and aggravated assault with a firearm. He was sentenced to 20 months in the Department of Corrections and court costs of $415. He had no prior criminal record. Palm Beach schools presented a $6.2 billion school budget this year, increasing spending by 3.2%. The millage was 6.287 mills and 3.5% salary hike for employees. Gloria Branch took a conservative position on the budget. I just want to thank you for the hard work and being fiscally responsible and unfortunately we did have to lay off people, but I’m happy that we’re not like other school districts and have to close schools. So I appreciate you and your team and Mr. Burke for being fiscally responsible. Enrollment is down some 6,000 students this year and by 10,000 students in the past two years. Teachers Association President Gordon Longhofer says public schools are suffering. The state chronically underfunds them each and every year and they put profit over student learning by creating a voucher system that removes public dollars from public schools and does so with little or no accountability. Haley Bellman got 12 years in prison for child rape charges. Travis Allen pled guilty to all charges. He’ll also serve 176 months on sex offender probation. Henry County deputies investigated the case in 2023. A 14-year-old had told Lee County deputies he’d been abused by the suspect in Henry County. He was accused of fathering a child with a minor. Allen had prior convictions for contributing to the delinquency of a minor, possession of narcotics and traffic charges. He scored 189 months in prison. Our Congressman Scott Franklin able to get some appropriations for Glades County this year. And in Glades County we got some Brighton Communications improvement on, well that’s going to be in Moorhaven, that’s about $850,000. Well the Bellman Mario Yahir Cedillo Zavala was charged with driving without a license. He never had one issued and does not have a driver’s license in any U.S. state. Another shooting in Belle Glade, this one on September 18th at 6.06 p.m. They did not reveal the exact location. They say they are pursuing charges of first-degree premeditated murder in that shooting. A LaBelle man, 46-year-old David Rose, is facing grand theft charges in Highlands County. Highlands County deputies say they responded to a report of a burglary in progress at Glades Electric on Old State Road 8 in Venus. Video surveillance say that Rose broke into the property damaging a fence, causing $2,500 in damage. They used a drone and a canine to find Rose in some thick swampy vegetation. Rose said he was walking on the highway because he had an argument with his girlfriend and she dumped them there. When they asked him why he was so wet, he said he had jumped into a ditch to avoid getting hit by a semi. It’s alleged he tried to steal about $800 worth of copper in that incident. He was also charged with felony criminal mischief and burglary. I’m Charles Murphy, WAFC News.
