I’m Charles Murphy reporting. Henry County commissioners hope to resolve an effort to put in mail kiosks in outlying areas on October 28th. They were hoping to have roofs over the facilities for the postal workers to place mail into the kiosks without getting drenched. Some residents had long complained they had to drive to Clueston to get their mail. Most of the mail issues are in Commission District 5. Commissioner Emma Byrd says the county wanted to make it easier for residents. Because you are residents of Henry County, the goal was to make sure you got your mail. That’s what the goal was, to make sure you got your mail. You didn’t have to ride 30 miles to get your mail. Palm Beach schools passed a proclamation for bullying prevention. October is National Bullying Prevention Month. Staff and students are asked to wear blue on October 5th and stand up for kindness. Bullying victims can often suffer academically and socially. School board member Virginia Savagetto says bullying can have lifelong impacts. Targets of bullying are more likely to develop physical, emotional, and learning problems. And students who are repeatedly bullied often fear activities such as riding the bus, going to school, and attending community activities. The Palm Beach Commission approved an agreement with the state for them to take over maintenance of County Road 880. The stretch from 20 Mile Bend to Belle Glade will come under state maintenance. Commissioner Joel Flores doesn’t want to take other state money away from other roads. This road is going to require a lot of funding and by doing this, other projects that are in the priority of the county don’t fall through the crack. A LaBelle man, Travis Johnson, under arrest in Naples, charged with battery. He apparently was in a medical facility and was fighting with staff, including several security guards and nursing staff. He was attempting to flee the facility. Security says they responded to a report of a combative patient in one of the rooms. A fundraiser run for Andrew Martins around Lake Ogochobe Friday. It’s going to be one effort. The plan is no sleep, keep moving. And, you know, the idea of course is this crazy physical challenge, but yeah, the plan is no sleep. We’re going to go through the night. Martins has a special story. He was shot in the back of the head on New Year’s morning in North Palm Beach, apparently celebratory gunfire for the new year. He was lucky to survive, let alone live a normal life. He received five stables for a head wound. He’s healthy enough to go around the Lake Ogochobee Scenic Trail Friday and Saturday, starting in Cluiston, heading counterclockwise to raise money for Urban Youth Impact. Martins says they still haven’t figured out what happened. Apparently it’s something that happens every year down in South Florida and I’m sure various other places as well. But yeah, they didn’t find any information on exactly where it came from, who it came from, but they’re pretty positive that it came from outside of the space that I was at and it drew up to celebratory gunfire. Urban Youth Impact is a non-profit school that serves inner city youth for free. They provide programs, counseling and after school care at no cost. A resident complained about the city of South Bay looking trashy with people littering precious pates as she thinks she lives with pigs. To make sure we keep our community clean. I see how hard I guess the facilities department work. Like y’all pick up the paper, stop throwing stuff down and keep your part that you can do up to date. Mayor Joe Kiles agreed, urging people not to litter and trash up the city. I’m Charles Murphy, WAFC News.
