I’m Charles Murphy reporting. Henry County got an update on the streamlined high-speed internet program and its installation. Nine towers are in the process of being installed and five already operational. They’re offering Henry County free service as they are allowed to place towers on county land. The final towers will be installed in Montour, Wheeler Estates, Fort Denote, and in Mews. Lou Elliott says eight towers have the carrying capacity. We believe in bringing competition and options to our community. And three carriers is how many exist in this country. He says they will provide a reliable service. Even a second of downtime causes our community extreme pain. So with that, we’ve designed our network to be as resilient as physically possible. The Florida Highway Patrol expects a record amount of vehicles on Florida roads for this Memorial Day holiday. We’ll have all troopers available on patrol looking for reckless drivers, aggressive drivers, and impaired drivers. If taking long trips, make sure you have your vehicle in good shape and obey all traffic laws. Lieutenant Greg Buena says there’ll be a lot of vehicles out there traveling the roads. And it just stresses the importance of doing the right thing, abiding by all of our Florida statutes and traffic laws, and treating each other on the road with respect. He says you need to respect other drivers. Using your turn signals, proper following distance, not showing any aggression, having patience, all of those little things matter. NOAA revealed its forecast for the 2026 Atlantic hurricane season on Thursday. Dr. Neil Jacobs predicting a below normal season. This equates to eight to 14 named storms with winds at or above 39 miles an hour. Of these, three to six hurricanes with winds at or above 74 miles an hour, and one to three major hurricanes, that’s your category three to five, with winds at or above 111 miles an hour. Moorhaven High School celebrates its graduation ceremonies this morning at 10 a.m. Glades County School Board agreed to fund their summer school. They expect some programs won’t happen because there won’t be enough students. We’re approving something we don’t know that we can afford. School board member, Crystal Drake, says they needed to look at summer school and other programs for possible cuts. But when we’re in the position we’re in, we gotta look at every program and decide. The state took oversight of the district finances last month. Its fund balance had fell to below 2%. Glades Central Community High School celebrated graduation last Friday at the South Florida Fairgrounds. The Ann Kwan and Dion Bolden $10,000 scholarship awarded to Maya Shastain. You guys should be proud of yourself because you did it. Although the future is awaiting you and it may be scary for some, I know that anything that comes from the muck is prepared for the next step in life. Assistant Superintendent, Jamie Wyatt, says the students should have character and confidence. Character is not about what you post online. It’s about who you are when the camera is off. It means being a person of your word and having the integrity to do what is right when it is difficult. Valedictorian, Adriana Ramirez Delgado, says students need to think of success differently. Success is often measured by titles, grades, or accomplishments. But I’ve learned that true success is defined by resilience and how you decide to move forward. It’s choosing to keep going when things feel impossible. It’s overcoming doubt, pushing through challenges, and refusing to let setbacks define you. The class salutatorian was Leslie Cruz.
