I’m Charles Murphy reporting. A Henry County ICE operation leading to the arrest of a 2012 sexual battery and kidnapping suspect. On August 8th of 2026, 38-year-old Alicio Garcia Zunin was apprehended in Henry County during the ICE roundup. A DNA sample was obtained for his arrest and sent to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. He was sent to California and was awaiting deportation. On February 7th of 2012, Henry County deputies say a girl 14 was abducted and held against her will in her residence. She said she was walking home when she was grabbed from behind and thrown to the ground. At that time, it was reported that Garcia Zunin dragged the victim into the residence where she was forcibly raped. The DNA profile from Garcia Zunin, taken in 2026, matched the DNA profile obtained in the 2012 unsolved kidnapping and sexual battery case. He was picked up by detectives in California and will face sexual battery and kidnapping. Senator Aaron Grawl’s election integrity bill was sentenced into law this year. The SAVE Act requires verification of U.S. citizenship to vote. Senator Grawl argued the bill is intended to standardize identification requirements and ensure the IDs used at polling sites are harder to counterfeit. If we’ve identified where there is a loophole and fraud can be committed, we should work on tightening Grawl says illegal voting did not start yesterday. We had many arrests and different people who had pled guilty to voting in Florida, even though they were here illegally, over the last 20 years. I mean, this isn’t something that, you know, just is happening now, but some people have been here doing this for a long time. Henry County’s finest getting some reinforcements. New detention deputies are Jacob Bornhorst, Kirsten Parker, Cliff Shisha Camel, Alexandria Smith, Angelo Ruth and Naima Brown. They also swore in jail tech Leticia Wides and dispatch trainee Leslie Calderon. The sheriff’s office also celebrating years of service awards. Deputy Sheriff Davin Givens has served 20 years. Lieutenant Christy Archer, 20 years. Administrative staff member Claudia Taylor, 10 years. Jail tech Dale Conyers, five years and detention deputy Gregorio Gonzalez, five years. New freshwater fishing regulations being devised by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission for commercial fishermen. Electronic trip tickets and mandatory reports will be implemented sometime this year. How much the fishermen harvest, what fish they target and new quality control measures will be implemented. One would require refrigeration and ice for fresh caught fish. Natalie Howard with the FWC says currently they have no quality control standards. This would be reasonable and minimal impact on our fishermen. So it would be protection from the elements such as the sun or weather and separating it from any sources of contaminants such as the bilge or gas. A 17 year old LaBelle man, Ronald Clark, is facing charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, battery on law enforcement and resisting arrest. He got into an argument at an undisclosed location in Cluiston. He had a toy gun which replicated a 1911 platform handgun and Leslie scared another man by pulling the slide back, simulating he was chambering a bullet during their argument. When deputies arrested him, he allegedly resisted and kicked one of the deputies. I’m Charles Murphy, WAFC News.
