I’m Charles Murphy reporting. Moorvin City Council will hold a workshop next Monday to discuss a plan to improve the marina and the waterfront area. The Southwest Florida Regional Planning Council will provide assistance. The Granger Group has expressed interest in a project at the marina. The two lots in the marina, four lots across the street, and three lots on Avenue J could be included in the plan. They also discuss ways to improve and or replace City Hall. City Attorney Steve Ramouni talked about the developers showing interest in the marina. That’s your big complaint from the boaters is that facility is substandard. So why not make it into a money-making venture? Mayor Clay Browning says they must keep in mind a boat ramp project in LaBelle could impact the Moorhaven operation. City Manager Larry Tibb says the existing City Hall can’t be hardened or expanded and that space is very limited. They have talked about replacing City Hall. Moorhaven is considering adding more flagpoles at the waterfront too. There are currently six flagpoles with the U.S. flag and flags for the armed forces. Two flagpoles, one for the Merchant Marines and the other for the new Space Force, could also be added. The City of LaBelle Commission agreed to spend up to three thousand dollars to rent a pump to remove water at Moss Landing. The rains in April led to five homes being flooded there and a lot of standing water which was removed by these pumps. The landowner worked with the city to design a better drainage system. The city wondered if they could be repaid for the work they do by the landowner. Those people are constituents too. I agree. That’s Commissioner Bobbi Spratt. She’d like to find a quick solution. I just feel sorry. I feel terrible for those people who are continuously being flooded. I mean maybe we should dig a ditch or something and get it out and dump it on somebody else. City Attorney Derek Rooney says it likely would take a long time to get an agreement together. It’s one thing to just pump stuff off. It’d be easier if we could work with whoever owns the property to design a better system for it. The Pahokee City Commission honoring retiring school board member Marsha Andrews who’s retiring from office this year. Andrews says she’s always worked with Pahokee as a team. When something happens to one of us, it happens to all of us and we come together to make sure we correct things, to make sure we don’t leave people behind. Mayor Keith Babb presented Andrews with a key to the city during the short ceremony. I just hope that whoever preceded her just look at their footprints in the sand and try to follow them as close as possible because she won’t be replaced. Palm Beach Mayor Sarah Baxter announced this month she will not seek re-election, abandoning her re-election campaign and said she’s filed to run in the new Congressional District 22. It has no incumbent. If elected, Baxter would represent Henry County in Washington. I’m Charles Murphy, WAFC News.
