I’m Charles Murphy reporting. Walmart, LaBelle, and Allico are interested in extending the road into their 84-acre planned-unit development west of town off Highway 80. The commission approved the annexation, and the project now goes before the city planning board. They’re planning single-family homes and townhouses, about three units an acre. The LaBelle Museum also asked for an increase in funding of $500 this year to an even $8,000. They’re closed for the summer. Bobbi Spratt says she appreciates what the museum does. I commend you and your three workers, because to get people to volunteer and give that much of themselves to such a worthy cause is unheard of today. The city decided to pay the electric bill this summer to keep the air conditioning on to fight mold in the museum. The Seminole Tribe of Florida will host a public information meeting next week on the Lake Ugochobe Harmful Algae Bloom Restoration Project. It’ll be at 5 p.m. at the Florida Seminole Veterans Building. A complimentary dinner will be provided, and the meeting is open to the public. It’ll provide an overview of the project’s purpose, scope of work, restoration methodology, anticipated schedule, and environmental benefits. Moorhaven City Council learned the federal government will provide funding for the Countryside Meadows sewer project. The Congress is working on funding the automated meter reading system the city wants. The city is seeking state dollars as well, but that was vetoed by the governor. City Hall had a special guest when a raccoon tried to enter a window and front door recently. Animal control was dispatched and handled the situation. Clerk Ashley Wills says she appreciated them getting there quickly. We had a raccoon trying to break through the windows out here, and the guy showed up to try to catch him. I think it might have had rabies. It was crazy. He was trying to break through this window, and then went to the front door and tried to break through it. Council member Marcus Decker wanted the employees to be more cost-conscious toward the rising costs of gasoline and diesel. Among arrests, Robin King of Clewiston arrested in South Bay after a traffic stop for a drug possession. The traffic stop in the 100 block of Southeast 2nd Avenue. They found heroin in the vehicle. King was arrested after heroin was found on the subject. There was also a nine-year-old child in the vehicle. The Palm Beach County School Board named a new principal at West Tech Education Center in Belle Glade, Adrian Dowdell. He says he’s very excited about the opportunity. In the Glades region, we say that success is in our DNA. And I look forward to carrying that spirit forward as we lead West Tech on to changing lives through education and workforce development.
