I’m Charles Murphy reporting. Henry County’s bridge consultant performing inspections on the Fort Denot Swing Bridge over the Igloo-Sahatchee River starting this morning. Motorists and pedestrians should use extra caution while traveling through the work zone. They’re working to rehab the swing bridge and services are expected to last about 5 months or 150 days. The work will be done Monday through Friday between 8.30 in the morning and 4.30 in the afternoon. Henry County Commissioners honored Florida Community Health Centers on their 50th anniversary. Commissioners approved a bid with Bardi Construction to build a mail kiosk and Wheeler Estates The $72,500 contract would provide for a 40 by 80 foot concrete slab and a covered area. The construction could take up to 60 days. The county approved rezoning to commercial of a just over one acre parcel, now zoned Residential Mobile Home at 4753 West State Road 80 in LaBelle. The county followed state guidance with data centers, only allowing them to be considered as planned unit developments. In the courts, Glades County prosecutors dropped charges against Clarence Hunter. He’d been charged with child cruelty, tampering with evidence, and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon. They reduced the five felony charges to one first-degree misdemeanor of resisting arrest. Hunter was charged on January 3, 2024 after a domestic disturbance in Moorhaven on Avenue E. Hunter was seen running from the scene with an AR-15-style rifle. He allegedly had attacked a woman in the home and three kids tried to assist the woman. He was also charged with busting out a window to her vehicle. Deputies say they found over $64,000 in the glove box of that vehicle. Among arrests, 48-year-old Jose Morales Garcia of LaBelle is facing charges of battery after a disturbance at the Save-A-Lot in LaBelle. Three males were found shouting and yelling at each other. The Save-A-Lot manager, a female, said the suspect had come into the store often and has touched her without permission multiple times, one time pulling her close and trying to kiss her. Jose was told to leave but would never leave the parking lot. When she told him she wasn’t interested, the suspect allegedly took off his belt and was going to strike her with it, according to the Hendry County Arrest Report. A deer-fooled beach woman was killed on Saturday afternoon in a crash on US 27 in South Bay. 37-year-old Narcissus Tiffany was southbound in a 2021 Cadillac SUV when the vehicle somehow went out of control and headed into the northbound lanes. Two other vehicles involved in the crash, including a semi-truck and a 2017 Nissan sedan. There was a passenger in the Cadillac from Clewiston. 15-year-old Haviland Worthy suffered serious injuries and was sent to St. Mary’s Medical Center. A 20-year-old LaBelle man, Roe Banos, is facing fleeing and eluding police at high speed, driving while license suspended and resisting arrest. The chase began in the area of the weigh station on US 27. In the late night hours, a Mercedes Benz was going 82 in a 65 and then accelerated into the vehicle pursued, reaching speeds of 130 miles an hour. The chase lasted for about 20 miles. Headed west, deputies were able to deploy stop sticks near Blackbore Ranch, and the vehicle stopped about a mile later. Deputies say they found some drug paraphernalia in the vehicle.
