I’m Charles Murphy reporting. Finally, Election Day is here. A lot of statewide races and races for Congress. On the Henry County ballot, they’ll be helping select a representative in Congress, either Casey Askar or Pia Dandia. They’ll also be helping two elected state senator, either Lauren Mello or David Silverberg. There’s also a House seat on the ballot in Henry County featuring Lisa Priddy and Arthur Boyer. The Clewiston City Commission races will elect three. The incumbents are Molly Gardner, Barbara Edmonds, and Hillary Hyslop. The challengers are Derek Hughes and Jennifer Evans. Three seats will be filled in that election. The Port LaBelle Community Development District’s five seat will be decided between Rebecca Lewis and Alexandria. Plazanova will also be a board seat on the Central County Water Control District, either Arthur Gallagher or Tim Hilsman. Glades County also will play a role in electing a congressman, either Dan Green or Darren Soto. They have a House seat up for grabs in Glades County, Kaylee Tuck against Lee Estes. Of course, both ballots will have the amendments, including Amendment 3, property tax reform, and Amendment 2 that helps agriculture. In Glades County, they’ll be voting on single member districts for county commissioners. They’ll also have a non-binding referendum on funding Glades County Florida’s fire and emergency rescue services, should the county consider adopting a non-ad valorem assessment. And they’ll also have an amendment on flexible funding for Glades County schools. Published schools hearing from teacher Donald Pearson, who appealed to the board for more mitigation rights when teachers are done wrong by administration. But there are teachers who are not getting a fair shake, and if one’s not getting a fair shake, we say it about students. Every student matters. Our teachers matter. A schools matter because of that. He also wants protections for whistleblowers. Pearson says there’s no support for teachers anymore. The Henry County State Attorney has issued a notice of no pros against Derek Bryant for a recent shooting. He had faced charges that include attempted second-degree murder involving a firearm and shooting at or within a dwelling or building. In the incident, Bryant of Belle Glade allegedly was involved with shooting at other people. On April 26th of this year, in the Harlem community, four spent nine millimeter shell casings were found. A Ford pickup truck appeared to have been hit by gunfire at least twice. One bullet hitting the tailgate and another hitting the rear windshield. There was no one injured in that shooting. Apparently Bryant had gotten into a fight in Harlem that night and allegedly returned and fired shots, but again, the state attorney dropping all those charges. A Clewiston man picked up on a warrant in Okeechobee for allegedly fleeing law enforcement. Back in September, Ron Lee Pujol was held on a $12,000 bond. A Learjet bound from Austin, Texas to the Bahamas crashed in Palm Beach County Sunday, killing all nine people aboard. Eyewitness Abilino Tomaj lives close to the crash site in a mobile home park. He says he and his children were stunned. I just brought my kids and I was waiting, just waiting for the fire and dying right there with my kids. I’m Charles Murphy, WAFC News.
