Palm Beach County Fire Rescue says four people were stabbed at South Bay Correctional Tuesday night. Two were taken to a trauma center for treatment. A Henry County man, Roosevelt Adderley, received 20 months in state prison for discharging a firearm in public, possessing a firearm as a minor, child abuse and aggravated assault. He had faced 12 years behind bars and scored 54 months. He was just 15 on May 29, 2024 when he allegedly was involved in a shooting and fight at M&M Supermarket in Clewiston. Several people were involved in the fight. Someone started shooting, dispersing the crowd, and the shooting was caught on video. Adderley was yet to have his day in court in a murder case in Harlem from October of 2024. A female was shot to death at the Harlem Gardens Tenant Circle office. She died from a gunshot wound to the back of the head. Five shell casings were found. The Henry County Sheriff’s Office say two teens or known gang members are accused of killing the 16-year-old Johanna Johnson while they were waiting for a rival gang who they thought they saw before opening fire. Jaden Lawson also is charged in the shooting. Both are still going through the court system facing second-degree murder. Morehaven City Council learned the city planner Jason Utley is working to develop a vacant building maintenance ordinance specifically for commercial buildings. They want to give more power to code enforcement officers. Attorney Steve Ramouni says they’re also revamping the industrial uses in city codes wanting to protect the city from having big industry move in. Because as you know we have very limited property zone industrial so we want to make sure that that’s something that’s over overbroad and then we wind up in a situation where we have somebody putting a dump in the middle of the city. Senator supports amendment three. State Senator Erin Raw says every government is spending too much especially in recent years. She says most people are now overburdened with property taxes. If I had to say number one issue that I hear from constituents it’s generally affordability right now. She says they need to figure out the tax issue. Just because there’s disagreement doesn’t mean we won’t work with each other to figure it out and I look forward to figuring it out if it does pass and if it doesn’t pass I look forward to finding a solution that helps with the affordability crisis that so many people are having right now with living in Florida. She says the problem is the scope of government. We continue to add on. I’m Charles Murphy reporting. Add on and add on when there are in fact a number of a number of services that overwhelmingly the population does not take advantage of maybe doesn’t think that they should have to flip the bill for it at whatever the number is. Raw said she’s disappointed most local governments are opposed to the amendment and the opportunity to be more efficient with taxpayer dollars. A lawsuit filed in Henry County between Rouge River Farms and Aerial Crop Protection, the farm located near Clewiston, plants and grows sweet corn. Aerial Crop is a bell-glade business that applies pesticides and agriculture chemicals as crop dusters. The plaintiff seeking over $50,000 in damages. They claim that 298 acres of sweet corn were being cultivated and sprayed by the company but the company used the wrong chemical resulting in a total loss of their crop. A Henry County man, Ramiro Quintana, was sentenced to life in prison after being convicted of multiple sexual battery and child abuse charges. The instance took place on the Big Cypress Seminole Indian Reservation between January of 2019 and September of 2022. The victims were over 12 years old. I’m Charles Murphy, WAFC News.
