I’m Charles Murphy reporting. The Clewiston City Commission met in a workshop session to discuss their waterfront plans. They reviewed plans for improving it with a walkway, longer seawall, improved parking, restrooms, a walking path, fishing pier, observation tower, pavilions, grills, and picnic areas. Phil Flood says South Florida Water Management District will have to approve these plans. Anything that you want to do out there, the terms of the lease require that you get authorization from the district. So before you get too far down the road, you definitely want to reach out and say, hey, this is our plan. Christopher Cooper, the City Building Department official, says people want facilities at the waterfront. People want to go down there, but there’s no reason for them to. If you don’t have a boat, there’s no reason to go down there as it stands right now. And according to the survey, people want to get down there. We just, we’ve not given them a reason to. He thinks it would attract a lot of people and good growth to that area of the city. We have some investments that are interested in coming to Clowiston. And I think that some of these studies show that when you make investments in public parks, you bring higher class interest into your municipality. Two residents came before the City of Belgrade Commission opposing townhouses in Raiderville. They say it’s a single-family home residential area and they don’t want apartments. Rudeen Butts was among those that spoke against the townhouses. The builders that’s coming to build, they don’t live in our area. So actually it’s money making to them, but to us, it’s keeping us safe. Moorhaven City Council agreed to sign a $99,000 contract to do some road work on Avenue H. They discussed safeguards after a city employee was bitten by a dog on the job, and the city urged the City of Belgrade to upgrade the restrooms at Chalunitka Grounds. The Glades County School Board honored the Moorhaven track team for their sacrifice for team members this spring. The team opted not to attend a track meet so they instead could support their teammates who were members of the Moorhaven band at their band concert. School board member Kimberly Clement saluted those students. And it just makes your heart so happy. It gives you chill bumps. Our track team posted that they had several band members in their track team. So to support their team, they are not going to their track meet tonight. The entire team is going to the band concert to support their team members. I don’t know why that makes me emotional, but it makes me just so happy. Alabama man Stanley DeRoso is facing charges of driving without a license and resisting arrest. He was clock going 70 in a 50 mile per hour zone. And when they ran his license, they found it was suspended. The deputy tried to give him a break, as there were no other licensed drivers in the vehicle. He said for them to park the vehicle and go home, get another ride home, that is. But 15 minutes later, he pulled DeRoso over on the same vehicle, driving. A 53-year-old Clewiston man on a bicycle is facing charges of giving a false ID to law enforcement. James Summers was upset when he was pulled over. Clewiston police say he became belligerent and came toward the officer in an aggressive manner. The officer’s report said the bike did not have the proper front or rear lights. They allege that he provided a different name and date of birth. A Bell Glade man is facing drug and weapons charges. Charles Willingham allegedly had a gun in his holster and also had some marijuana on him. They found some suspected drug cash, $267. The arrest was in the area of 300 SW 6th Street.
