I’m Charles Murphy reporting. Florida Southwestern College announced a new degree program for Precision Agriculture to expand the workforce with more agriculture technical jobs. They unveiled it at Leobel City Hall. Dr. Jerry Allbritton talked about this new degree program. It’s going to focus on precision agriculture and focus on the workforce needs of this area to expand our workforce education and probing in many fields, but certainly in the precision ag tech field. It’s something new. City of Clewiston agreed to create a centennial committee to celebrate the city’s 100 year anniversary in 2026. They still have to decide a lot of the arrangements and when they will hold the celebration. Pahokee Commissioners reluctant to pay $60,000 towards a piece of equipment that can clear canals along Lake Ukechobee. The cities of Belle Glade and South Bay have made a contribution, but Pahokee has been resistant. They want to know the details and how it will help their community. Commissioner James Scott says they have other options when it comes to cleaning canals. What you’re saying to me really don’t make sense to me. Glades County Schools honored 10 students who earned perfect scores on last year’s state assessment tests. The list included Stella Henry and Braxton Davis of Moorhaven Middle School, Sawyer Hunterlaw of Moorhaven Elementary School, Tyson Calloway, Gail Moreno, Aaron Sort, Parker Dillman, and Henry Gonzalez of West Glade School, and Jermindia Fudge and Kamara Jumper of the Glades Virtual Program. Kimberly Clement says the schools continue to push their career and technical education programs. We want to make sure our educational classes are supported, but our CTE. I mean there are days that I would not have come to school if it wasn’t for my opportunities that I had in those CTE classes, and that’s pretty much a lot of it for some of our kids too. They also heard a presentation from Pima Yeti Omahaka Charter School and the Brighton Reservation. They remain in A school. Principal Tracy Downing says they appreciate the partnership they have with Glades County Schools and are constantly improving. She says they have never forgotten their roots. Our top goal is to preserve the culture and the heritage and the traditions of the Central Trump of Florida because we want to make sure that that’s always our focus. That’s why the school was founded. A 39-year-old LaBelle man is charged with stabbing a man and trying to steal his vehicle. The incident happens on Ute Street outside a business and eyewitnesses watched. Henry County Sheriff’s deputies arrested David Woodard on aggravated battery charges not far from the business. The male victim was stabbed twice with a knife and injured. Good Samaritans helped to detain the suspect as deputies arrived. The vehicle owner who was stabbed thought Woodard and prevented the theft as the vehicle crashed into a ditch. A speed of 112 miles per hour landing a motorist in the Henry County Jail. 33-year-old Guillermo Martinez of Clewison was clocked going that fast on County Road 833 by Henry County’s finest. He allegedly violated the super speeder law. The speed limit was 45. Martinez was also on probation. Henry deputies say Martinez ran several stop signs on Hunting Club Avenue and Hussey End Street. Deputies say they found some fentanyl in the vehicle. I’m Charles Murphy, WAFC News.
