I’m Charles Murphy reporting. The rising drought index leads to a burn ban for Henry County. Outdoor fires, other than a cook fire, are excluded, including bonfires, campfires, and burning of yard debris. Those that violate the burn ban can be subject to a civil fine. You can still get burn permits for commercial or contractor services through the Florida Forest Service. The Henry County Sheriff’s Office asks you to report any burn ban violation at 674-5600, 674-5600. They don’t know how long the burn ban will be in effect. A fatal crash in Western Glades County reported on Monday evening, County Road 74 and County Road 731. The Florida Highway Patrol says the victim was a 31-year-old female from Tampa. It’s alleged that she was headed westbound and entered the eastbound lane colliding with a sport utility vehicle. The driver of that vehicle, a 37-year-old man from Loxahatchee, was in serious condition. The crash remained under investigation. A Belgrade man, apparently celebrating New Year’s, is facing charges of fleeing and eluding police and resisting arrest. Raynard Coney was seen by an officer in the area of Southwest Fifth Street and Southwest Avenue B about 1230 AM on New Year’s morning, pulling out a large assault rifle and then firing several rounds into the air. He then fled on foot. They found him later in the morning and filed those charges. Surveillance cameras helped them figure out who was driving an abandoned vehicle related to that incident. Palm Beach deputies chased down an ATV in Belgrade. 19-year-old Abraham Ramirez is charged of fleeing and attempting to elude police. The chase started on Southwest 16th Street as the deputies saw the ATV do a wheelie and then speed up. Ramirez failed to stop and ran a red light, too. The ATV was found later in some sugarcane fields, according to the arrest report. A 58-year-old LaBelle man is charged with leaving the scene of an accident where multiple vehicles were damaged last year. Henry County’s finest says Holland was picked up on a warrant last month for a February 6th crash on Route 80 near Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. Some six vehicles were involved, including his own. One victim says Holland swiped her on 80. She then followed to try and get the license plate and saw the truck collide into the rear of a small Ford compact. Three of the vehicles struck were parked. There is no report of serious injury. Henry deputies have charged him with DUI, driving with a suspended license, and four hit-and-run charges. Holland is also a suspect in some hit-and-runs that occurred in Glades County that afternoon. A canoeist was bitten by an alligator near the Palm Beach County-Broward County line on US-27. Palm Beach County Fire Rescue responded to the call late Friday evening. It was near Stormwater Treatment Area 3 and 4. Fish and Wildlife also responded, and the victim did not have a serious injury. He was transported to a Broward County hospital for treatment.
