I’m Charles Murphy reporting. The Florida Department of Education announcing some funding for Henry and Glades County Schools. Glades County receiving $1.25 million to fund support programs in nursing assistant, acute and long-term care, agro-technology, business management, e-commerce and marketing. Henry County Schools received $222,000. It will support programs in allied health assisting. Florida Southwestern College plans to add an Advanced Engineering and Technology Initiative Associates Degree Program in Glades and Henry County. It will focus on regenerative farming and ranching. Alex Christin spoke to Glades County lawmakers about the new Advanced Engineering Program. Just more pertinent to Glades and Henry County, our rural folks, is going to be our new precision agriculture pathway launch. Small Business Saturday is upon us. Of course, today is Black Friday. It’s a national program encouraging people to shop local and support their small business. Rollins University economics professor Mark Johnson says this time of year is very important to small retail business and the bottom line. Johnson says small businesses rely on these campaigns. So for them, that last two months of the year, the last six weeks of the year are very important to their overall profitability for the entire year. Small business makes up a large percentage of Clueston and LaBelle’s economy. In the courts, Wedgworth was named in a negligent lawsuit for a traffic incident in Henry County. Ann Vaughn and Natasha Coring filed suit against the driver for a crash on May 24th of last year at Olympia Street and West Sagamore Avenue. They claim the truck failed to yield the right-of-way and struck Vaughn’s vehicle, which was then pushed into a Henry County school bus. The lawsuit claimed Vaughn and Coring suffered multiple injuries and they’re suing for medical bills and treatment, lost earnings, disability and other claims. They’re also demanding a jury trial. A 51-year-old Pahokee man is accused of attacking his girlfriend with a hammer in a violent incident. Palm Beach County Sheriff Deputy Jermaine Williams was also wanted for a warrant in Glades County. He allegedly broke into the victim’s apartment as well. Charges include aggravated battery, armed burglary and false imprisonment. The victim suffered a head injury but was not hospitalized. Henry County Sheriff investigators say they shut down an alleged chop shop in Cluiston. 48-year-old Jose Peraza Montiagudo is facing charges of operating that chop shop here in Cluiston. A traffic stop earlier this month resulted in a deputy finding an altered DOT VIN sticker on the pickup. The number showed a vehicle stolen out of Miami. They searched a residence on Pioneer Street in Cluiston and deputies say they found multiple stolen vehicles. They also found truck beds and frames, truck parts, tools, bumpers, tire wheels, welders, torches and grinders. I’m Charles Murphy, WAFC News.
