I’m Charles Murphy reporting. Florida’s Chief Financial Officer, Blaise Ngolea, issued a check to the Hendry County Sheriff’s Office. The $85,000 check reimburses them for immigration enforcement efforts. The funds cover expenses like officer training, gear, technology, and transport. Ngolea says he’ll continue to support law enforcement. When Minnesota, years ago, descended into chaos, our state held firm on law and order. During COVID, when cities like Minneapolis were being burned down by bad actors posing as activists, Florida said, no way. Sheriff Steve Whitten praised the support he gets from the CFO and Governor Ron DeSantis. I’d also like to thank the governor and this administration because they have really stepped up over the last several years and supported what we do. The Clewiston City Commission heard from groups trying to help find work for disabled and or challenged adults. One parent says her daughter is age 27 and can’t find suitable work. We believe in work ethics. She’s not at home. She’s volunteering every single day, except the summer that is on break, but she’s working. We don’t believe her to be staying at home and doing nothing. I want her to be a force for good. We want that to be the case, and I’m sure every parent wants that for their children. The Belgrade City Commission, meeting in special session, voted to eliminate the position of planning and zoning director, as well as one administrative assistant position. They have automated the positions to handle permits and inspections. The program also handles digital plan review, electronic payments, inspection schedules, and they expect to see a savings of about 175 grand a year. Ogie Mayor Keith Babb asked the Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office to crack down on speeders on Bacon Point Road. He wants those motorists to slow down. Speeding, particularly on Bacon Point Road, is almost becoming a racetrack. In politics, Republican Dan Green hopes to win the new District 9 race for Congress, which would cover Glades County. He’s a former military veteran and serves in the reserves. He says he’s committed to the district and its veterans. It’s been an honor to serve my country for 23 years. I really, one of the reasons I’m running for office is to serve my country yet again. You know, I volunteered for five tours because I believe in our country. You know, I didn’t fight, you know, radicalism overseas, only seen radicalism take place here at home. So I want to make sure I’m an advocate for every part of our district. We have a wonderful district. It’s got wonderful people, different backgrounds, walks of life. I’m going to try to do the best job I can. He has 23 years of service in the Navy and has served five tours in Afghanistan and Iraq. He’s sustained by the victim. Victor Menendez says he got into an argument with the victim over marijuana and rolling papers. Alcohol appeared to have played a factor in the incident. He was charged with battery on a person over 65. 33-year-old Javaris Bryce of Clewiston is facing drug charges. Henry County’s finest stopped a sedan on US 27 due to dim tag lights. A canine inspected the vehicle and alerted to narcotics inside the vehicle. I allegedly found some marijuana and some Xanax along with ecstasy. The total weight of the drugs was nearly 50 grams, which is worth about $150. I’m Charles Murphy, WAFC News.
