I’m Charles Murphy reporting. Clewiston PD able to grab a grab and dash retail thief. It happened last week on Sawgrass Street. Savon Davis got into a foot chase with Clewiston Police and allegedly admitted to the theft while being arrested. The Doyle-Conner building expansion has been completed. They have updated offices, new learning spaces, better accessibility, and a modern kitchen. To support the 4-H, the IFAS extension, more education, community engagement, and local events. State Senator Erin Grawal received $1 million for the city of Moorhaven for their seawall and $2 million for the Indian Prairie Canal boat ramp on Lake Okeechobee. Grawal called it a good session for Glades County. Glades County, there were some school projects that really were needed and roofing project, I think $4.5 million. The Marina Seawall expansion down Moorhaven, just under a million. You may have said this, the Indian Prairie boat ramps, we have two million, I think. Grawal says the state is also considering studying for agriculture use some recent land purchases. If there are lands purchased since 2024 that can be surplused and put back into agricultural production, protect our domestic food supply. Glades County schools celebrating being ranked 18th out of 67 school districts in the state. In 2020, they were ranked 64th. Superintendent Beth Barfield says every teacher, staff member, administrator, and parent, and of course student, have a hand in this improvement. The city of LaBelle wants to ban fishing on the boat docks and marina on the west side of the State Road 29 bridge over the Igloozahatchee. They also want to ban swimming. They’ve received five complaints. They don’t want fishermen there fishing when the boats are moored. Zach Mangiello, their code enforcement officer, says they don’t want any people doing drugs down there either. This ordinance, the Bravitz, such as fires and excessive alcohol use and illegal drug use, it’s just cleaning up some stuff that kind of should have been common sense. Former mayor Julie Wilkin says there have been some disorderly people in that area. Fisher person, whoever it was, was just very arrogant and obnoxious and yelling and actually came back and threw things at the boat, if I recall correctly. Among arrests, 20-year-old Alexander Rivera of Clewiston is facing charges of drug possession. The arrest by the Florida Highway Patrol. Rivera was a passenger in a vehicle stopped on the interstate. They also found a firearm on the front passenger seat. Inside the vehicle, they allegedly found some pills and a total amount of narcotics of over 28 grams, believed to be cocaine and marijuana. Troopers say the incident involved an alleged kidnapping that took place on I-95 in Palm Beach County. An Hispanic male was transported to Delray Regional Medical Center for treatment, claiming he was carjacked at West Atlantic Avenue. He claimed he was held at gunpoint. The victim had cuts and lacerations to his hand and face and head. He claimed he was working a delivery job, dropping off documents at various law firms. When he was kidnapped, one of the males, he said, wore a ski mask. He also claimed to have been pistol whipped and was stripped of his pants, jewelry, shoes, and less than $100 in cash. Rivera was also charged with aggravated assault with a firearm, along with misdemeanor battery. He was found wearing the victim’s watch and shoes at the time of the arrest.
