I’m Charles Murphy reporting. The Florida Highway Patrol continues to actively investigate last weekend’s hit and run involving a pedestrian in Clewiston. Lieutenant Quig Bueno gave this update. We do have a person of interest and that investigation is very active as I speak and hopefully in the near future we will have an additional update. He says fleeing the crash is automatically a crime and you never leave the scene of a crash like this ever. We do have a person of interest and that investigation is very active as I speak and hopefully in the near future we will have an additional update. They have recovered the pickup truck in Osceola County. Clewiston commissioners met in workshop session to discuss a new firm to handle the finance department. Administrator Danny Williams told the commission that all the employees in the city are now at at least the minimum wage. I don’t think we’re over budget. I think we’ve been under budget for many years and paying the people we have. Clewiston police says there’s a bunch of kids walking around town at night checking vehicle door handles and stealing items from unlocked vehicles. Lock your vehicle they say if you’re only for a few minutes and try and remove or hide valuables from plain view. They did post some surveillance video hoping for tips. You can call Clewiston’s finest at 863-983-1474. 863-983-1474. You can even send an anonymous letter if you prefer. A 22-year-old Henry County man facing drug charges, Adrian Silva, pulled over in a vehicle going 78 in a 45 on County Road 833. Henry County Sheriff’s deputies say they approached the vehicle and spotted the suspect mulling around inside looking like he’s trying to move things around or hide things. They didn’t have to look hard to find stuff. They opened the door and smelled burnt marijuana and saw two bundles of U.S. currency and a handgun magazine. The suspect said he thinks he had about $500 in the car. They find a total of 63 grams of marijuana along with various items of drug paraphernalia. The medical examiner found 19-year-old Royer Perez Jimenez took his own life at the Glades Attention Center on March 16th. His death was ruled a suicide and there was no foul play. He was found hanging with a towel around his neck in a shower. The report found other inmates thought an inmate was sleeping in the shower and were not immediately alarmed. He’d been arrested by Edgewater police for crossing the street and not using a crosswalk on a scooter. We did obtain some body camera and some audio from that in the arrest. The officer spotted Jimenez on the scooter but he doesn’t stop when told to. Come on over here. Come on over here. Don’t do it. Get back in the car. This is what happened when they caught up to Jimenez. Put your hands behind your back. Put your hands behind your back. I don’t speak English. Okay, hands. Manos behind your back. They did find a suicide note in his belongings. In it he allegedly wrote I can’t take it anymore and apologized to his mother. He’d been in court days earlier and was hoping to get a bond and be released from jail. He had overstayed his visa. I’m Charles Murphy. WAFC News.
