I’m Charles Murphy reporting. Henry County Sheriff Deputies investigating a drowning last week. It happened in a pool on Tuesday. Two witnesses said the victim appeared to have been stung by a bee and fell into the pool and was unable to recover and subsequently drowned. The investigation though is ongoing and they have made an unrelated arrest in the case of a 36-year-old Henry County man related to drug charges. Palm Beach County Commissioners continue to move forward with an ordinance to put in cameras in school zones. There are differences of opinion and a case in Broward County over the constitutionality of the cameras is still being litigated. It’s possible the state legislature could also impose laws but that didn’t happen this year. Commissioner Greg Weiss wants to ticket those that violate the speed limit in school zones. That vehicle was going 11 miles an hour over the speed limit minimum during school zone light flashing. It’s not all day long. It’s while kids are walking to and from school. To me it’s unconscionable that we’re even having this discussion because we know what happens. Commissioner Joel Flores wanted to know if the county can afford this. If they’re going 11 miles over the 20 mile an hour speed zones they’re going to get a ticket so they rightfully so should get get ticketed but what happens the next year when behavior gets modified because now they understand they’re going to get a fine. Are we still going to be able to pay for essentially five to seven positions whether it’s county or pbsl? One of these school zones with cameras would be the K.E. Cunningham Canal Point Elementary. The program could lead to the creation of six to eight jobs within the county and the sheriff’s office. A 34 year old Clewiston man is facing charges of loitering and prowling. Henry County Sheriff Deputies on foot patrol in the Twin Lake area saw a man walking against traffic but stumbling in the road indicating he may be intoxicated. Deputies approached him but then he pulled up his pants and tried to walk again into traffic. A foot chase ensued and 34 year old Walter Herrera was tased and brought to the ground and into custody. EMS evaluated him at the scene and he was not transported to the hospital. So far the only charge is loitering and prowling along with resisting arrest without violence. A 45 year old Clewiston man allegedly mouthed off to a deputy during a traffic stop. It happens on US 27. The vehicle was spotted by a deputy traveling at an unusually slow speed. They pulled him over on Hoover Dyke Road. The deputy report said Lance Amon became argumentative. Deputies say it appeared that alcohol may have played a factor. An Alva man is facing animal cruelty charges. Lee County deputies say Michael Crandall failed to get his dog veterinary care after he was hit by a car. Deputies have responded to the home for domestic violence call and found Crandall hiding in a drainage ditch along with his dog who was dragging his hind legs shaking and visibly in pain.
