I’m Charles Murphy reporting. Making a bomb threat is no joke, according to the Henry County Sheriff’s Office. Last Thursday, they had to bring in bomb-sniffing dogs to the Henry County Courthouse from the Lee County Sheriff’s Office after a phoned-in threat. They were able to figure out who made the call. 41-year-old Don Anthony Filigno of Cape Coral was arrested earlier this week on a felony charge of making a false report of a bomb, explosive or weapon of mass destruction and using a cell phone to facilitate a felony. City of Belleglée getting more and more public comments about the old hospital and its decaying condition. The property is not owned by the city, is in private ownership and is up for sale with an estimated price of at least $6 million. The city has conducted assessments and issued code violations and fines to the owner. They say they are actively engaging with the current owner to explore options for potential demolition, similar to successful initiatives undertaken with other blighted properties within the Community Redevelopment Agency or CRA. Belleglée leaders were in Washington last week to meet with Congresswoman Sheila McCormick. They want to get help for funding to repair the deteriorating 5th Street Bridge. They also would like more resources to enhance their senior rehab program, helping housing for the seniors. Seminole police on the Big Cypress Indian Reservation find a suspect sleeping in a car in the middle of the road. Riley Hill was charged with possession of Xanax, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon and possession of a weapon during a felony. The suspect had a .40 caliber revolver and open bottle of Hennessy sitting next to him. He was in the passenger seat. It took several knocks to wake up the two people inside. More Haven getting ready for the Chalunitka Festival this weekend. They’ll have a parade Saturday morning at 10am, alligator wrestling, live music crafts and a 7pm ranch rodeo. The event’s running from 9am to 9pm. The additional activities include a pancake breakfast at 7.30. They’ll also have a Navy SEAL demonstration at 11.30. The admission this year is $15 for adults, $5 for 12 and under, and kids 5 and under are free. It has affected anyone. She’d also like to see more youth interaction with police. Where the children learn trust with the law enforcement and then when they do see something, maybe they can say something, is building trust, is building a relationship between law enforcement and the community. Highsmith says they need to improve Belle Glade. When I got back to Belle Glade, I didn’t think that it was up to par to where I thought it should be. He also advocates for term limits for council members. I don’t feel like the commission should continue to elect the mayor because we’re going to get the same thing that we’ve been getting for over 20 years. The election is March 10th.
