I’m Charles Murphy reporting. Shooting in Montour gaining the ire of County Commissioner Michael Atkison. He says people are always shooting in target practicing and others are always complaining. The deputies go out, oh they got an acre of land they’re allowed to shoot but they don’t have a berm or anything else. Atkison says he’s also working on veterans to create a veterans park in Cluiston. It would be on land on US 27 west of Cluiston. He’s seeking some surplus military equipment to place there. Henry County unemployment declined from 5.4 percent in November to 4.9 percent in December. The Florida Department of Commerce has 1,093 workers out of work here in December compared to 1,203 in November. One year ago in 2024, 741 people were out of work. The number of employed also gained from November to December. 21,092 had jobs in November, 21,368 in December. Around the region, Glades County had 6.5 percent, Palm Beach County had 4.5 percent and Lee County 4.6 percent. Moorheaven City Council debated whether to have a community cleanup in Washington Park with the city picking up part or all of the bill. Washington Park is not physically inside the city limits, but they do get water and electric service from the city. Councilwoman Roshandra Krosky says the city should do it for free. Those residents in Washington Park pay their electric bill here at the city. So they are our customers as well. Even though they live in the county, they still pay their bills here with us at the city. The city would have to provide labor, trucks, fuel and even pay the tipping fee. They will look to work with Glades County to waive those fees at the transfer station. Attorney Steve Ramone says the city must treat all their customers the same. And you’re providing a free service to a customer on par with your other customers is not fair. The South Bay City Commission will seek funding from the state this year to improve infrastructure and streets. They also need funding to repair the leaky roof on City Hall. Other grants are being sought for Tanner Park, the Commerce Center and the water plant. Mayor Joe Kyle says their focus needs to be on infrastructure. Your comments don’t go void, your complaints don’t go void. We hear what you’re saying and we’re working diligently trying to make sure that we are trying to make some make some of these streets routability in reference to the bumps and the humps in the city of South Bay. Glades County is still watching the property tax debate in Tallahassee. Commission Chairman Tim Stanley says the state proposals he’s seen and heard make absolutely no sense. I don’t know where they’re coming from with this. It’s just like they’re just trying to create a bunch of chaos for some reason. A Henry County man who was badly burned at a work site in LaBelle, Treston, Torbit has sued three companies he claims are negligent in the case. Fulbright Company, Bridge Street Auto Parts and BMF Electric Incorporated. He was burned while trying to fill up his tractor with diesel fuel. He says the fuel transfer hose and nozzle contained design defects that made it unreasonably dangerous and were improperly installed. He was badly burned in the incident on August 26th of 2024 while helping maintain the grounds at a local business. He’s requesting a jury trial and is seeking damages of over $50,000 for past and future costs of medical care, past and future economic losses, emotional distress and pain and suffering.
