I’m Charles Murphy reporting. Fort Deneude residents opposed special events at the Ryan Estate at Tyrell Gardens at a recent public hearing before county commissioners. Traffic and noise are the biggest concerns. They say it’s a residential neighborhood and commercial uses like this would not fit. The facility has hosted 100 events like weddings and family gatherings. They would also have alcohol vendors. Julie Wilkins, representing the owners, says it would be small weddings and tasteful family events. Not rock and roll, not rap, not a frat party. They live there. Mr. and Mrs. Ryan do not want to disturb the peace. They want to enjoy their property and allow other people to do so as well. Neighbor Bob Hall says these weddings bring booze. The wedding group was high on something. When they came, they even passed a bottle around when the minister was doing the services. So to think that there’s not going to be alcohol or it can be controlled or whatnot, that’s ridiculous. Glades County agreed to spend over three quarters of a million dollars to reconstruct and resurface numerous Buckhead Ridge streets. They’re doing Peach Street, Peach Lane, Lemon Street, Lime Street, 23rd Street, 24th Street, 22nd Street, Trout Street and Lake Drive West. The money will come from county gas taxes. County Commissioner Jeff Patterson supports this street work. We have the money there to do it. This has been going on for three or four years. So you know, I think the people in Buckhead, it needs to be fixed. Palm Beach County commissioners transmitted the RV Park Comprehensive Plan amendment in Belle Glade to a state at a public hearing and could take final action this week. Commissioner Maria Sacks would like to see even more RV parks in Belle Glade and in her county. What I’d like to do is to encourage more and more RV parks that we have because this is something that is just part of the beauty of Palm Beach County. Dave’s Hilly is near Rarden Park on Hatton Highway. Two men who apparently didn’t like each other resulted in shots being fired outside a Pahokee grocery store. 72-year-old Leroy Bryce Jr. is facing aggravated assault with a firearm and discharging a firearm in public. The victim says he saw Bryce come at him in a parking lot. He drove off and heard several shots being fired. No one was injured in the incident. The victim says at one time the suspect was his neighbor and he was mad at him for having power issues in their apartment, owed him money and over a girl. Bryce was once convicted in Hendry County of drug charges and served 52 months. The actual shooting took place at Save-A-Lot at 600 East Main Street in Pahokee. The arrest was made in South Bay. Hendry County Sheriff Deputies say a man is behind bars for threatening people with a handgun and a knife. 58-year-old Aristiz Sanchez facing a charge of aggravated assault. Deputies responded to a disturbance and were able to calm the man down and take him into custody with minimal force use. It appeared that the suspect was under the influence of alcohol. The victim says he was able to disarm Aristiz and wanted him to get help. I’m Charles Murphy, WAFC News.
