I’m Charles Murphy reporting. Clewiston High School will try and get back to their winning ways as they named a new football coach, Pablo Sanchez. He has served as defensive coordinator in the past. Sanchez says his teams will have great heart, hustle and determination. I learned that the best teams are led by accountability, men who demand excellence from themselves and their teammates on every single play. The Tigers have slumped with a record of 8-21 in the past three seasons. Palm Beach County Commissioners approved close to $1.2 million from a Community Development Block Grant to improve the water system in Belle Glade west of East Canal Street, east of North Main Street, north of Southeast Avenue G and south of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. The city of Belle Glade has been demolishing old buildings to try and improve the condition of the town. The county refused to send a letter to the owners of the Palm Beach International Raceway that stated the county supports having a racetrack there. Sarah Baxter suggested the letter, noting there are developers interested in the property. I just want anyone who is potentially looking at this property to know that we the board support it being a racetrack. Commissioner Greg Weiss opposed sending a letter for the racetrack. I think having a racetrack is a wonderful idea, but I think all you need to do is if you’re concerned about people wanting, they can just watch this video and they can hear us and hear the discussion. I think trying to put it in writing is problematic. Glades County School Board says they’ve lost 100 full-time kids due to school scholarships for private schools this year. School board member Crystal Drake says that has cost them about $1 million in funding. The trajectory that we’re on is going to drastically hurt public schools. And it’s no longer just the rumor or just the conspiracy theory that they’re out of public school. I mean, it’s reality now. The LaBelle City Commission honoring law enforcement with Law Enforcement Appreciation Day. Henry County Deputies Gary Hull and Lieutenant Alan Hudson accepted the proclamation at the commission meeting. The proclamation read by Commissioner Kevin Holland, he says the community needs to thank its lawmen. The men and women of law enforcement put their lives on the line daily to ensure the protection of our community, working tirelessly to safeguard lives, uphold the law, and maintain peace. The City of Moorhaven executed a 10-year agreement with Florida Power and Light for the purchase of electric power for the city electric distribution system. The council also executed a decade-long agreement with Glades Electric Cooperative to use their lines to move that new electric power. The City of LaBelle recently celebrated the delivery of a $2 million ladder truck to serve the fire department. They’ve been expanding personnel there as well. The truck was purchased with a state grant. They had a traditional push-in ceremony. Commissioner Hugo Vargas says that the ladder truck is very versatile and will bring different skills and abilities to firemen. He says it’s a good addition to the city. A $2 million ladder truck, you know, it’s a great addition to the city. It’s going to make the city safer. I’m Charles Murphy, WAFC News.
