I’m Charles Murphy reporting. A Belle Glade man convicted of first-degree murder could face life in prison. 31-year-old Luis Manvel Garcia was also found guilty of improper exhibition of a firearm, aggravated assault on law enforcement, and attempted murder. He’ll be sentenced on January 8th. The fatal shooting took place on June 6, 2021 at or near 1799 South Main Street at Rodeo Las Palmas. Palm Beach deputies say a fight broke out in the parking lot at the rodeo event, and two men were found with gunshot wounds. An eyewitness says an Hispanic male started firing the handgun in the parking lot as people fled. Garcia also fired several shots at law enforcement. One deputy returned fire. A sergeant was able to tackle the shooter as he fled the scene. One victim died of a gunshot wound to the torso, and a second had to be hospitalized with a gunshot wound to their leg. Palm Beach deputies investigating a shooting and a homicide in the 8600 block of Glades Drive in Pahokee was reported on Saturday at 6 30 a.m. Deputies upon arrival located one adult male victim dead from apparent gunshot wounds. They’ve also had six house fires. Fire Chief Geraldine Jaramillo says drowning is another thing to worry about. It’s a real thing at the holidays that parents and adults need to be aware of. Especially on the holidays and parties, always try to assign somebody to keep the kids, you know, watch them on the entrance doors because people come in and out from the pools, from the patios. It was sold at the Belle Glade Circle A on 2nd Street. The winning numbers were 7, 15, 25, 28 and 31. A Pahokee man dies in a dirt bike crash on Christmas Day. It happens at Lake Avenue and 4th Street. 39-year-old Joshua Jones was reportedly going a high rate of speed when he slammed into a Dodge Charger. Get ready for some old man winter around Clewiston, Central Florida and South Florida will be getting a blast of air as of last night. Temperatures were down in the 40s up in Orlando. Our forecast calls for a low tonight of 44 degrees and the temperature won’t get out of the 60s until Saturday. More people have been getting medical marijuana in Florida. Director of the Office of Medical Marijuana Bobby Smith reported a 3% increase in patients in the past year. There was a 2% increase in doctors that prescribed marijuana. Smith says it’s a large industry now. We have just over 925,000 qualified patients, 5600 qualified caregivers and then 2400 qualified physicians. Our office regulates 28 medical marijuana treatment centers and those centers collectively operate 40 cultivation sites, 35 processing sites, 733 dispensaries and then 24 fulfillment and storage areas. Representative Juan Carlos Porras of South Florida would like to see the state crack down on marijuana related products that are marketed toward kids. Medical marijuana products that are attractive to children. I know in that same legislation we allowed for the department to come after some of these products, to come after some of the advertising that’s been poisoning you know families across the state of Florida.
