The Department of Health in Hendry County will provide COVID-19 Vaccines by appointment on March 4th in LaBelle and March 5th in Clewiston. Glades County will provide appointments on March 7th & 8th. The health department continues to use the online registration system for pre-registrations. The DOH advises that registrants should not call the direct phone number for the Health Department, and to please use the online registration system.  Individuals can pre-register to “get in line” and will be notified with available appointment time. The Health Department will follow Executive Order 21-47 which expands COVID-19 vaccination in Florida to include frontline health care workers, persons 65 and older, as well as the 50 and over population of K-12 school employees, firefighters and law enforcement.

Starting today, Hendry County will be undergoing more road work on Cowboy Way from SR 80 eastward to Bridge Street in LaBelle. The road work includes drilling and getting pavement samples of the existing roadway. Flagmen will be present to direct traffic and the speed limit will be reduced.  Motorists should expect lane closures and possible delays throughout the duration of the road work operations, which last only through today at around 4:30. This schedule is tentative and subject to change. The Hendry County Engineering Department will notify the public of any changes. The office of Palm Beach County Property Appraiser Dorothy Jacks, is now accepting applications for the 28th Annual Palm Beach County Property Appraiser’s Scholarships. Six college scholarships of $1,500 each will be awarded to graduating high school seniors who plan to attend a higher education institution full time. Each recipient will also be offered an opportunity for a paid summer internship in the Property Appraiser’s Office. To be eligible for a scholarship award, a student must be a resident of Palm Beach County, have a minimum of 3.0 GPA, and plan to attend an accredited higher-education institution. A 25-year-old Lehigh Acres man was traveling south on Interstate 75, south of Daniels Parkway just after 1:30 a.m. on March 2. For unknown reasons, the driver lost control of the vehicle. The car traveled off the road and hit a fence. At which time the man got out, and fled the crash scene on foot. His 2 female passengers were left behind uninjured. Troopers were eventually able to identify the driver. The criminal charge of leaving a crash scene with property damage is pending.
