CRASH IN GLADES COUNTY RESULTS IN 9 YEAR-OLD DEATH
A 9-year-old girl was killed and a 77-year-old woman seriously injured in a crash on SR-78 in Glades County on Sunday afternoon.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, an SUV driven by a 30-year-old man from Okeechobee was towing a trailer south on SR-78, south of Tomato Grade Road, around 2:20 p.m.
A sedan driven by a 46-year-old woman with the 9-year-old and the 77-year-old as her passengers, all from Okeechobee, was traveling north on SR-78.
The man lost control of his SUV and traveled into the northbound lane, into the path of the car. The woman veered right to avoid the SUV, but the vehicles still collided. The car’s passengers were transported to an area hospital , where the 9-year-old girl was later pronounced dead. The other girl in the sedan suffered serious injuries. The drivers of both vehicles had only minor injuries.
The crash remains under investigation.
FARM SHARE TO DISTRIBUTE FOOD THROUGHOUT PALM BEACH COUNTY
People in Palm Beach County have the opportunity to receive groceries from the state’s largest food bank this week.
Farm Share, one of Florida’s leading food nonprofits, will be distributing food throughout Palm Beach County as early as Tuesday.
Those in need will receive fresh produce and non-perishable canned goods. For safety reasons, distributions will be drive-thru only to minimize contact and to help ensure the safety of all parties. The organization says attendees must arrive in a vehicle with a trunk or cargo bed.
On Tuesday, the organization will be at the Wells Recreation Center in Riviera Beach, distribution starts at 9 a.m., while supplies last.
