WEST PALM BEACH PD LOOKING FOR CARJACKING SUPECT

The West Palm Beach Police Department have dropped the emergency alert Wednesday evening after they searched for a suspect in the area.

Police say 20-year-old Jo’Nathan Huggins is a suspect in a carjacking that occurred early Monday morning at 4:30 at the U-Gas station on Palm Beach Lakes Boulevard.

Police say he and the victim knew each other, and that the victim was pistol whipped and possibly grazed during the carjacking.

Huggins was taken in for questioning earlier today, during which time he ended up escaping police custody.

A search took place in the area of Sapodilla/Australian Ave to 7th Street/Banyan Blvd. It was scaled back at around 6:30 PM on Wednesday night, but WPD police are still actively searching for Huggins.

Anyone who sees the suspect is asked to call 911 immediately.

GLADES COUNTY CORRECTION OFFICER ACQUITTED OF TAMPERING CHARGES

A Hendry County jury acquitted a Glades County corrections officer on charges she tampered with evidence in a homicide investigation.

Jakaybren Hunter was found not guilty of picking up a handgun from a shooting scene in Harlem.  

34-year-old Anthony Balkom was found unresponsive at a Harlem apartment complex on September 10th 2020.

Body Cam footage showed Hunter stepping on the gun that was lying near the victim, pick it up and leaving the area.

Hunter denied taking the gun from the scene and refused efforts to get the gun back.

Hunter was terminated from her job at the Glades County Detention Center after the arrest.

FLORIDA GAS PRICES ON THE DECLINE BEFORE 4TH JULY TRAVEL

 Florida gas prices declined 14 cents last week. The state average has now been on a 2-week streak of declines, falling a total of 21 cents per gallon, since setting a new record high price of $4.89/g on June 13th.

The discount at the pump is due to a recent drop in crude oil and gasoline futures prices, which are largely driven by concerns about the economy, following the Fed’s interest rate hike.

On Sunday, the state average price for regular unleaded was $4.68 per gallon. That amounts to $70 for a full 15-gallon tank. Holiday travelers paid $3.01 per gallon on July 4, 2021; and $2.68 per gallon on July 4, 2019.

AAA forecasts that auto travel will set new records this Independence Day,with  More than 42 million Americans are forecast to drive 50 miles or more during the holiday weekend. More than 2.3 million of those will be Floridians.

Drivers should expect busy roads during the holiday weekendparticularly during Today and Friday afternoons, as commuters leave work early and mix with holiday travelers drivers could experience double the travel times compared to a normal trip. AAA advises road travelers to leave early and identify alternate routes in case you encounter congestion.
