Governor DeSantis issued an emergency order Tuesday evening related to the Colonial Pipeline closure. Drivers all across the state quickly drained many of the gas pumps in fear of a gas shortage. Gov. Ron DeSantis’ executive order waives size and weight restrictions to support efforts to transport gasoline, diesel fuel and jet fuel. The Florida Department of Transportation will issue permits under special circumstances, according to the order. The order is in response to the Colonial Pipeline ransomware attack, forcing the pipeline to pause operations Friday to contain the hack. The pipeline delivers about 45% of the fuel used along the Eastern Seaboard. Colonial anticipates restarting most of its operations by the end of the week.

Brenda Barnes, spokesperson for the Department of Health says the CDC recommends delaying travel until you are fully vaccinated, because travel increases your chance of getting and spreading COVID-19. If you are not fully vaccinated and must travel, follow the CDC’s recommendations for unvaccinated people. Even if you are fully vaccinated, choose safer travel options to protect yourself, your loved ones, and others from COVID-19. According to the CDC, all travelers should Wear a mask over your nose and mouth when in public. Masks are required on planes, buses, trains, and other forms of public transportation traveling into, within, or out of the United States and in U.S. transportation hubs such as airports and stations. Travelers should avoid crowds and stay at least 6 feet from anyone who is not traveling with you. And of course, you should still wash your hands often or use hand sanitizer (with at least 60% alcohol). Consider Short road trips with members of your household or fully vaccinated people with few stops along the way. If you must fly, try to take flights with the fewest stops or layovers. Only stay in a vacation rental with people from your household or fully vaccinated people. The CDC provides more information on Safe food options, safe camping and tips for international travel.
