Brown Sugar Festival Potentially Canceled
A news affiliate reports, the family of Evereonna Sankey, who was shot and killed at the Brown Sugar Festival last year, has Filed a wrongful death lawsuit. Sources say the Sankey family claims negligent security led to Evereonna’s death and that organizers knew the environment could be dangerous. After speaking with several residents and Hendry County commissioners, it still unclear whether or not the festival will take place this year, as the Sankey family has asked that the event be canceled entirely, in honor of her daughter’s memory, and the fact that her killer has not been caught. WAFC has not confirmed rumors of a smaller, more scaled back festival, as opposed to the crowded event that draws people from all around Southwest Florida. We will continue attempts to reach out to the Brown Sugar Festival Committee for details.
