25-YEAR-OLD KILLED IN MOTORCYLCLE CRASH IN LEHIGH ACRES

25-year-old woman died in a motorcycle crash on Friday night on Parkdale Boulevard and Homestead Road S in Lehigh Acres.

Florida Highway Patrol said Daynna Diaz’s motorcycle crashed into an SUV that was in front of her that was driving through that intersection.

She was ejected from her motorcycle and was later pronounced dead on the scene.

Nashaly (nash-a-lee) Negron, Diaz’s best friend, said she knew something was wrong when she couldn’t get a hold of her.

Negron said the cops told them that she had passed away at the scene, and there was nothing they were able to do for her.

The fatal crash scene was filled with flowers and candles to remember her.

Now her family and friends said they are trying to send her back to Puerto Rico where Diaz was born and raised.

Florida Highway Patrol said the crash remains under investigation.

HOMEOWNERS FACEING MORE CHALLENAGES WITH INSURANCE

At least 17 companies insuring Florida homes are expected to lose their “A” ratings soon, causing even more volatility in the market.

State officials say ratings firm Demotech are about to downgrade many insurers, a move that Chief Financial Officer Jimmy Patronis warns could wreak “havoc with the financial lives of millions of Floridians.”

Mark Fried-lander, Florida spokesman for the Insurance Information Institute, called the expected ratings downgrade “unprecedented” but “not unexpected.”

stating A downgrade in a rating is a red flag that an insurance company is losing financial stability and potentially unable to pay claims.

The ratings are important because federally-backed mortgage companies Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae require consumers to carry insurance with A-rated companies.

The Florida Association of Insurance Agents estimates 62 percent of residential mortgages are through Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae.

If you have a federally-backed mortgage and your insurer suddenly loses its A rating, you need to find a new insurer or else risk defaulting on your loan, Fried-lander warned.

Demotech’s list of 17 expected downgrades has not become public yet. State officials like CFO Patronis are blasting Demotech ahead of the announcement, calling it a “rogue ratings agency” in a letter to federal regulators.

DEADLINE FOR VOTER REGISTER OR CHANGE IS TODAY

Florida’s primary elections are on Aug. 23, and if you plan on voting, Monday is your last day to register or change your party affiliation. Florida is a closed primary state, so if you plan on voting for a person in a particular party in the primary elections, you need to be registered to that political party.

The deadline to register for the August primary election is Monday, July 25 at 11:59 p.m.

Florida is a closed primary state meaning voters can only vote in primaries for which party they are registered.

Every voter will have at least one non-partisan race to vote on.
