Fatal Hit and Run in Hendry County

A Labelle man was the victim of the hit and run early Saturday morning. The Florida Highway patrol reports, on April 2 at around 4 am, a vehicle was traveling north on State Road 29, approaching F Road in Hendry County. A 27-year-old LaBelle man was walking in the area of the east shoulder of State Road 29. The report says, the man either fell or laid down in the area of northbound State Road 29. The vehicle hit the man in the road and kept going. The pedestrian was pronounced deceased on scene. If anyone has information regarding this crash, contact the Florida Highway Patrol or Crime Stoppers.

Local Woman Inducted into College Hall of Fame

Clewiston High School graduate-athlete Jasmin Felton, is being honored by her sport and by her college, with a little mark in sports history. Jasmin was inducted into the basketball hall of fame by ABAC, an agricultural college located in Tifton Georgia. Jasmin attended the college from 2000 to 2002 after being recruited to play basketball, though, she was also a Stallions softball player. Jasmin says she first found out about the induction in 2020, but COVID put a hold on the official announcement. Well, it didn’t put a hold on her excitement. Jasmin says, the women’s basketball team at ABAC is no more, that made the news that much more special. Nothing though more special, than this: (sound) At 5’ll inches tall, the hall of famer now coaches her son’s basketball team, who she led to a championship 3 weeks ago.

LaBelle PIO Starts New Position in Hendry County

For almost 12 years, Ron Zimmerly served the City of Labelle. In his different capacities, he’s seen many changes, well this change as led him in a different direction. Friday was his last day as the city’s public Information officer, and Gracie Morton will be filling the spot as of today. Zimmerly says he appreciates all the years he’s had with the city of LaBelle, and is looking forward to his new position nearby. Congratulations to both Ron and Gracie in their new roles.

New Restaurant Set to Open in Pahokee

Mayor Keith Babb expressed his excitement on Friday, in celebration of a brand-new venture for some residents of the Glades, and a brand-new return, to the Pahokee Marina Restaurant.  Partners from JPDT Holdings, Inc., Jonathan Mann, Travis Benjamin, Deonte Thompson, and Pernell McPhee, all born in Pahokee, met with city officials to conduct a walkthrough. JPDT HOLDINGS CORPORATION’S primary focus is to develop and improve the MUCK and Glades area through business, economic, and community development projects.  All 4 men, share the same vision: to see the community thriving with new businesses, more economic opportunities, and a modernized, updated infrastructure to rival any other community in the country. Their goal is to make the Glades area a destination place that people from all over would visit. The last restaurant in the location was Pahokee Mo’s Tiki Bar and Sunset Grille, which closed back in 2016. It got amazing reviews from visitors, and since then, had a much-anticipated reopening. Mayor Babb reports, if all goes as planned, the new Muck City Tavern should be opened by the end of June 2022.

The LaBelle Civic Center will be the home of a job fair on Wednesday April 6 from 3 to 6 pm. Some area employers include RCMA, ACT, Camelot Community Care, The Florida Department of Helaht and more.
