SOCIAL MEDIA ROAD RAGE VIDEO HAS HENDRY COUNTY SHERIFFS INVESTIAGATING
The Hendry County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a video posted to social media of a road rage incident.
It happened on State Road 80 just a few days ago. The woman who took the video claims the truck she was recording, side-swiped her car as she was on the highway heading to Clewiston.
Kira Cypress says she then started recorded what happened next. She says after following the truck for a few miles, she confronted the man behind the wheel, and that led to a fight.
Cypress says she was punched in the face.
She says she has a bruise on her chin and car damage, now she wants justice.
The Hendry County sheriff’s office is saying, “This is an ongoing investigation and could possibly be involving two different agencies.”
LOCAL AREA MAN RECALLES HIS MEETING WITH H.R. HIGHNESS QUEEN ELIZABETH
H. R Highness Queen Elizabeth II died yesterday at the age 96 years old.She passed away after more than 70 years as England’s matriarch.

John Williams is originally from Pahokee. As an educator, he did some moving around for his career, and in the early 90s he was the principal at Booker T. Washington Junior & Senior High School in the Miami area.
In 1991, Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Phillip flew to Miami from Washington D.C.
Her Majesty made a few stops in the area before heading to the royal yacht for a quick cruise to the Florida Keys. One of the places she visited was Booker T. Washington, where the school’s marching band played for her and she posed for photographs with city leaders and the school’s administration.
Mr. Wiliams remembers she was a commanding presence and had distinct voice that “…let you knew, she was used to being in command of situations, but she put him at ease.”
As if meeting Queen Elizabeth wasn’t enough, Williams recalls she invited him and his wife to attend a reception dinner on the royal yacht. Onboard, he met former presidents Ford, Carter and Regan and dined on salmon —his first time eating the dish. He penned a poem about the evening where he wrote “It was part of my plan, To have fun, And forever remember the day.” It is clear that he did just that.
HENDRY COUNTY SHERIFF IS ASKING FOR A BUDGET HIKE TO HIRE MORE DEPUTIES
Hendry County Sheriff Steve Whidden used Okeechobee as an example to try and get 19 new deputies. At the latest Hendry County commissioners meeting.
He noted Okeechobee spends 3 million dollars more per year but on paper have fewer residents and a smaller coverage area.
Whidden says they are badly under staffed
He has requested a near 3-million-dollar budget hike.
He went on to note that Hendry country is badly undercounted in the census.
He informed the meeting that he and his deputies are struggling to keep up with the sudden growth in Hendry County and argues more deputies will mean less crime.
