The CDC said it expects an increase in COVID-19 deaths and hospitalizations over the next four weeks, according to its new forecasts. According to Johns Hopkins University, the current COVID-related death toll in the US now stands at 773,000. The CDC forecasts suggest, by December 18, the new death toll could be up to 822,000. The agency also predicts hospitals are likely to admit more than 12,000 new COVID patients in the next four weeks. Florida ranks the No. 1 state for predicted number of COVID-19 deaths for the week ending Nov. 28 with 279.
On November 24, 2021 at approximately 8:20 am, the Florida Highway Patrol attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a vehicle for speeding on Helms Road. The car fled the traffic stop, ran the stop sign at Helms Road / State Road 29 and hit a power pole on the southeast side of the intersection. The driver then ran on foot into a wooded area. After an exhaustive search, troopers located and arrested the driver without further incident. The driver was identified as 21-year-old Terra’jhe Addison of Labelle. Addison was placed under arrest for no driver’s license, resisting without violence and fleeing and eluding, and booked into the Hendry County Jail.

The national uproar over a jury acquitting an armed teenager of murder had the attention of prosecutors and attorneys locally. At the Okeechobee State Attorney’s Office Ashley Albright wasn’t surprised Kyle Rittenhouse was found not guilty. He says the evidence he has says that Rittenhouse acted in self-defense in shooting three people, two fatally during protests over a police related shooting. Legal experts say prosecutors made mistakes, Rittenhouse performed well on the stand, and the state couldn’t prove Rittenhouse incited the violence.
