CRIME ON THE RISE AS PRICES CONTINUE TO SOAR

Prices of just about everything are on the rise and so is theft, according to Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers.

But These aren’t your typical crooks. Because of the economy, people are turning their desperation into crimes.

Crime Stoppers said it’s happening everywhere, and It’s not just big-ticket items that people are stealing.

Fort Myers police, Naples Police Department, Cape Coral cops, and Crime Stoppers are posting pictures of people they want to find.

Trish Routte, coordinator of SWFL Crime Stoppers, said, “The price of everything is so much more right now. And people have less money coming in. they are now just resorting to desperate measures

Crime Stoppers does not believe this increase in crime has anything to do with the end of the school year. But

They do fear now that they’ll see another sharp uptick now that students are home for the summer.

SOCIAL MEDIA LEADS TO SUSPECT IN RECKLESS DRIVING CHARGES IN OKEECHOBEE

Social Media leads to suspect in reckless driving charges in Okeechobee

Investigators identified a suspect in a reckless driving incident caught on camera in Okeechobee.

Video shared to authorities in April showed a young man tearing up a park in his car at the OCRA Sports Complex as children played nearby.

After sharing the video, the Okeechobee County Sheriff’s Office said it received numerous tips. That led to the driver’s nickname.

A sweep of social media and interviews with witnesses led to the name of 20-year-old Bryant Lloyd Bennett.

Authorities said Bennett came back to the park and flipped the car. He ran off and left his passengers in the vehicle.

There are now warrants for his arrest. He’s facing three counts of child abuse, two counts of reckless driving, one count of leaving the scene of an accident with property damage, and two counts of driving without a valid driver’s license.
