The Florida Highway Patrol will hold a DUI Wolfpack Detail beginning at 6:00 p.m. today, until 4:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 3.  The detail will take place in Charlotte, Collier, Hendry, Glades and Lee County, focusing on major state and county roadways. The Florida Highway Patrol does this to keep drunk and impaired drivers from the roadways in effort to enhance the safety of the public. Troopers will be driving around while monitoring traffic to maximize their visibility and effectiveness in keeping these drivers off the roads. The Florida Highway Patrol would like to remind everyone that *FHP (*347) dialed from any cell phone contacts FHP, to report an aggressive driver or request roadside assistance.

Crime Stoppers of Palm Beach County is searching for Shaquanda D Jones. Her last known address is Cypress Ave., Pahokee. She is wanted for failure to appear for driving while her license is cancelled, suspended or revoked. US Sugar started a program a month ago, to incentivize its employees to get vaccinated against COVID-19. The corporation had a contest where each employee had an entire month to get the vaccine of their choice, become fully vaccinated, have a chance to win some fabulous prizes, and receive $100 each. The contest ended on June 30th, and the winners were announced yesterday. The Kickin’ COVID together contest grand prize was a 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. Other prizes included laptops, a cooler, a shotgun, and a barbecue grill. The winner of the Chevy Truck was Eneyda Rios. We caught up with Robert Buker, president and CEO of US Sugar. Mr. Buker says, the gifts couldn’t have gone to a nicer group of people.

City of Pahokee Mayor Keith Babb shared some good news for his constituents last week. During the latest commission meeting, Babb announced that Pahokee High School did something its never done before. He congratulated the Pahokee High School graduating class of 2021 for accomplishing a feat, never accomplished before in the school’s history. One hundred percent of the graduating class received their diplomas on June 15. Pahokee High School was recently named one of the best high schools in the country by US News.

A vehicle accident in Hendry County leaves a LaBelle man in serious condition. At around 10:15 Thursday night July 1st, a Chevrolet Trailblazer stopped for a stop sign on Park Avenue, at the intersection of State Road 29. It was driven by an unnamed 59-year-old LaBelle man. A Hendry County Sheriff’s Office vehicle was traveling north on State Road 29, approaching the Park Avenue intersection. The trailblazer then turned left in the path of the patrol car, colliding into the front of the deputy’s car. The LaBelle man was transported to Lee Memorial Hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the patrol car, who is from cape coral was transported to a local area hospital with minor injuries.
