On Wednesday December 1st at around 11:00 p.m., Clewiston Police Officers responded to the Executive Royal Inn in reference to an armed robbery. The arrest report reveals that two victims, visiting from Kentucky, reported that two black males, one armed with what appeared to be an AR-15 style rifle, robbed them at gunpoint, taking several items including an iPhone and approximately $700.00 in cash. The suspects fled the area in a black SUV and the victims were unharmed. Using the “Find My IPhone” feature, officers were led to an address in the Harlem Gardens Apartment Complex, where they located the suspect’s vehicle, which displayed an AR-15 style rifle in the back seat.  Based on the victim’s description of the suspect, authorities say 34-year-old Cordell Washington was detained. Washington, had been previously identified in a separate armed robbery that occurred days prior and more charges are forthcoming, according to law enforcement. He was arrested, transported to the Hendry County Jail and charged with Home Invasion, Aggravated Assault with the Deadly Weapon, False Imprisonment, Theft, and Depriving a Person of 911 Communications. He’s being held without bond. No information on the second suspect has been provided as of yet. Anyone with additional information is asked to contact authorities immediately.

According to the Florida Senate, House Bill 4437 was filed with the state on November 30.  The bill, entitled, Clewiston Water System Infrastructure Improvement to Serve the Airglades Airport Project, will appropriate 4,000,000 for fiscal year 2022-2023. The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office responded to 290 NW 11th Ave. South Bay during the early evening hours of December 2nd. PBSO Spokesperson Teri Barbera says authorities were searching for 30-year-old Calvin Philips also known as “Choppa C”. Deputies showed up to the residence and entered the property in numbers. A live video stream on Facebook showed the incident took place for at least 3 hours. Philips was not at the residence at this time. According to Barbera, Philips later turned himself in. Barbera says Philips escaped the custody of police. He is charged with flee and eluding, resisting without violence and marijuana possession. He was booked into Palm Beach County Jail just after 9 o’clock on December 2.  

Crimestoppers of Palm Beach County is searching for Kwanmaine Clinton. His last known address is Virginia La., South Bay. He is wanted for failure to appear for charges of firearm possession on being in possession of ammunition, 2 counts of possession of substance, 2 counts of sale of methamphetamine, sale of marijuana and resisting an officer without violence. In accordance with Chapter 775 of the Florida Statutes, the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office is advising the public about a declared Sexual Predator, Voil Petitt who is now residing at 104 Pelican Lake Drive, Pahokee, FL 33476-3103.

On December 1st, Hendry County Sheriff’s arrested 20-year-old Genesis Chavez on 31 counts of Possession of Child Pornography with Intent to Distribute and 31 counts of Transmission of Pornography by Electronic Device.  The Hendry County Sheriff’s Office along with the Clewiston Police Department conducted a 7-month long investigation. Back in April, CPD enlisted the assistance of the Hendry County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit, when they received a complaint from the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Unit out of Broward County, which indicated child pornography was being downloaded and/or uploaded, from Chavez’s home in Clewiston. A search was conducted, and her electronic devices were sent for forensic review by Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE).  After reviewing images and videos from email and social media accounts, Chavez was taken into custody at her home. Chavez is currently being held in the Hendry County Jail on $310,000.00 bond according to police.
