The Clewiston High School Track and Field Team will host their 2021 invitationals this week at Cane Field. Last Saturday, the boys track team along with head coach Jay Similan held a car wash at Clewiston Middle School. Similian says the boys raised over $2000 over two weekends. We asked coach what was next for the Track team and how the community can support. He says come out to the invitationals at Cane Field on Thursday April 1st at 5 p.m. Admission is $6 at the gate and the concession stand will be open. And as always, go Tigers!!

Congressman Mario Diaz Balart made his rounds in Hendry County yesterday, after visiting in Collier County last week. The congressman kicked of his visit beginning is LaBelle, and spending the majority of the afternoon hours in Americas Sweetest Town. He visited at least three local businesses in an effort to connect with the community on issues important to them. The congressman touched on specific issues such as cares act funds for small businesses, vaccine distribution and restaurants, specifically the ones that have helped to keep our bellies full since the beginning of the pandemic. The congressman was also scheduled to meet with Hendry County School District Chair Stephanie Busin. Congressman Mario Diaz Balart is scheduled to return to the area soon, for another visit.

The City of Belle Glade’s Infrastructure Surtax Independent Citizen Oversight Committee, will meet on Wednesday, April 14, 2021 at 4:00 p.m. or as soon thereafter as possible, in the Mary B. Orsenigo conference room at Belle Glade City Hall.

The Hendry County Health Department in LaBelle and Clewiston will be providing first dose COVID-19 vaccinations by appointments. On Thursday, April 1st at the Hendry County Health Department in LaBelle from 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.  And Friday, April 2nd in Clewiston from 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Remember to use the website to pre-register for appointments at: https://my vaccine.fl.gov/ or call 866-201-6745. Governor DeSantis signed an executive order this week, lowering the age requirement to 40 and over. Effective Monday, April 5, 2021 all Florida residents shall be eligible to receive any COVID-19 vaccine as prescribed by the Food and Drug Administration. The Health Departments will also follow the State Surgeon General’s Public Health Advisory, which requires every vaccine recipient to be a resident of Florida or a frontline healthcare worker providing services in our state.

Gulf Coast Humane Society is holding a “Bake the World a Better Place Dessert Auction”. The dessert auction will take place on Thursday April 1st from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Clewiston Elks Lodge. The auctioneer will be Jason Williams, voice of the Clewiston Cougars. All proceeds benefit Gulf Coast Humane Society.
