An unidentified pick-up truck was traveling west on Golfview Boulevard, approaching Circle Drive in Lee County. A 14-year-old girl from Lehigh Acres was walking on the right side of Golfview Boulevard to a bus stop just after 6 yesterday morning. The right-side mirror of the truck hit the girl, breaking it off. The girl suffered only minor injuries. The vehicle is suspected to be a light brown Ford F150 with a missing right-side mirror. If anyone has information regarding this crash please contact *FHP or Crime Stoppers.

A report reveals that in the past two weeks, more than 100 people housed in Palm Beach County’s jails have tested positive for the coronavirus, and more than a third of the jail population is in quarantine, according to records from the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.  The rise in cases comes as the Palm Beach County courts have restarted criminal jury trials after a hiatus due to increased positivity rates of the virus in the county. According to sheriff’s office records, 453 of the 1,271 people housed in the main jail were in medical quarantine as of Monday. 56 people have tested positive for the virus at the west detention center in Belle Glade.

Many residents in the western part of Palm Beach County are concerned the new vaccine distribution plan will make it impossible for some to get vaccinated. The Department of Health in Palm Beach County announced Tuesday that the governor’s office has decided to no longer supply the department with COVID-19 vaccines. Instead, the county’s entire supply will be given to Publix pharmacies. Which sounds like a good program on the surface, but people in Belle Glade, South Bay and Pahokee are upset about it, because they don’t have a Publix close to them. And even public transportation doesn’t go to the Publix locations. The nearest location for drivers is 25 to 40 miles east. Commissioner Melissa McKinlay plans to address the governor’s office about this issue.

Governor Ron DeSantis announced eight Publix pharmacies in Indian River County and 11 Publix pharmacies in St. Lucie County will begin offering the COVID-19 vaccine. For a list of all vaccination sites at Publix locations in Florida, click HERE. All vaccinations by Publix at their select locations are by appointment only. Qualified individuals can make an appointment by visiting www.publix.com/covidvaccine.
