Palm Beach Illustrated has selected Pahokee Middle/Senior High School as a finalist for the 2020 Award for Instructional Excellence!  This award will be presented to a Palm Beach County institution that has demonstrated exemplary achievements in academic excellence and student success, has championed diversity and inclusion, and has effectively engaged in community outreach and partnerships. Pahokee Middle/Senior High School is a rural Title I school in an economically disadvantaged area, that has produced scholars who graduate with Honors Point Averages of 4.97, members of the National Honor Society, earning IB Diplomas, and completing over 400 hours of community service. Governor Ron DeSantis announced that the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity will submit Florida’s application to participate in the Lost Wages Assistance Program. This program provides additional temporary benefits for individuals who are eligible for Reemployment Assistance for weeks of unemployment ending on or after Aug. 1, 2020. If approved, this will allow Florida to offer an additional $300 per week to eligible Reemployment Assistance claimants. To be eligible for this benefit, claimants must be currently receiving at least $100 in an approved Reemployment Assistance program weekly benefit amount and must certify that they are unemployed or partially unemployed due to the disruptions caused by COVID-19.

A new tactical training center is set to open in a familiar location this weekend. FORCE CENTER announced today that it will be hosting its first ever, 2-day open house event on Friday August 28th and Saturday August 29th. The training center, branded FORCE CENTER, formerly served as the location of the Hendry Correctional Institute Complex. The center has property and buildings available to rent for a variety of training scenarios including active shooter response, cell extractions, shoot house, and 360 range. In-house trainers are also available to provide advanced training to law enforcement, military, security professionals, fire and EMS first responders and responsibly armed civilians. As many of you know, internet connectivity has been a major issue in our rural communities around the lake. The world wide web is especially important as of late with some families working, attending church services, and providing schooling from home, making them dependent on a strong internet connection. Well, you spoke, and your leaders listened. A feasibility study is being done to help corrected this widespread, ongoing issue. Consultant Greg Laudeman says, he’s been surveying the community and has gotten a strong response. However, Clewiston, he says, has the lowest response to the study. So here’s how you can be heard.
