A Lehigh Acres man will be in prison for the rest of his life in connection with crimes against a child he committed just over a year ago. A Lee County Court judge on sentenced 39 year old David Anthony Flowers to life in prison after being found guilty on the charge of Engaging in an Act Constituting Sexual Battery, Upon or With, a Child between the ages of 12-18 by a Person in a Familial or Custodial Authority, following a trial in November. Court documents say Lee County Sheriff’s detectives arrested Flowers in December of 2018 after investigating information they received involving him sexually battering a child in Lehigh Acres. The child victim was present in the courtroom Monday to watch Flowers’ sentencing.

Consistency was key for the Florida B.A.S.S. Nation team, which backed up a Wednesday leading weight of 197 pounds, 6 ounces with 198-13 Thursday to win the team championship at the TNT Fireworks B.A.S.S. Nation Southeastern Regional, on Lake Okeechobee with a two-day total of 396 pounds, 3 ounces. For their accomplishment, the Florida team won $6,250. Florida B.A.S.S. Nation team captain David Driggers said his team’s deep well of Okeechobee knowledge proved helpful in tracking down quality fish during the often-tricky period of prespawn to spawning.  Noting that his team members dispersed throughout the lake, Driggers said the anglers experienced two mechanical issues, but everyone made it back to tournament site without incident. Leading the Florida B.A.S.S. Nation team standings, Ray Trudeau of St. Cloud, enters todays final round in fifth place with 35-9. Today’s takeoff is scheduled for 7 a.m. at C. Scott Driver Park. The weigh-in will be held at the park at 3:15 p.m.

Governor Ron DeSantis announced that more than $84 million has been awarded to 21 communities impacted by Hurricane Irma through the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity’s (DEO) Rebuild Florida Infrastructure, Repair Program. The program, administered by DEO, helps communities fund infrastructure restoration and improvement projects in communities impacted by disasters. The Governor made the announcement in the Florida Keys, where Hurricane Irma left severe damage. Included in the 21 communities are some areas of Palm Beach and Collier Counties as well as Miami Dade. Closer to home, however, Hendry County made the list to receive over 4.2 million dollars to repair the Four Corners storm water drainage system to alleviate flooding. Flooding concerns for the Clewiston area were recently discussed at the City of Clewiston’s commission meeting earlier this week.

Country superstar Chris Stapleton is gearing up for a busy 2020. He’s has announced his lineup for his All-American Road Show Tour. If you haven’t seen him in person yet, you now have plenty of opportunities, 2 if you don’t want to leave the state. It kicks of March 11 in Corpus Christi, Texas and there’s an impressive total of 46 stops. One of the those stops will be in Estero on July 16 at Hertz Arena. He has only one other Florida show set for this year, on July 17 in Orlando. Stapleton will be joined by fellow artists Dwight Yoakam, Hank Williams Jr., Nikki Lane and Sheryl Crow. Tickets go on sale February 7.
