For the next week, the Florida State Capitol Building will be lit in purple. The light is a remembrance of domestic violence victims. Organizers from the Domestic Violence Coordinating-Council also shared resources for victims to get help. Kelly O’Rourke is on the Domestic Violence Coordinating Council in Tallahassee. O’Rourke said the Tallahassee Refuge House that helps victims of domestic and sexual assault has received over 4,000 calls this year.

Two new health alerts were issued Thursday morning for toxic blue-green algae in Palm Beach County. The first alert was for toxins found in Highland Beach, which is located between the Intracoastal Waterway and the Atlantic Ocean. The Florida Department of Health in Palm Beach County said the alert was in response to water samples taken Sept. 23. The second alert was for the Pahokee Marina Boat Ramp on Lake Okeechobee, which has seen multiple algae alerts this year. The latest alert for the Pahokee Marina was in response to water samples taken Sept. 27. This is the second alert issued for the marina this month. Health officials said the public should exercise caution in and around these areas. Drinking water is not affected.

A Port St. Lucie man died in a single vehicle crash Saturday morning on Conners Highway near Belle Glade. Toriano Rutledge was traveling NW on County Road 717. For unknown reasons, Rutledge lost control of his car and struck the guardrail on the NE side of the road. The car then travelled across the lanes of travel and struck another guard rail, this impact caused the car to flip onto its rooftop, where it came to a final rest. 55-year-old Toriano Rutledge was pronounced deceased on scene by Palm Beach County Fire Rescue. Rutledge was a resident of Port St. Lucie.

A woman died in a single vehicle midnight accident after hitting two trees. A 32-year-old Okeechobee woman was traveling east on NW 36th Street just east of NW 36th Avenue in Okeechobee Saturday. The Florida Highway Patrol says for unknown reasons, the vehicle traveled off the roadway onto the north shoulder. The right rear side of the vehicle collided with a tree causing the SUV to rotate and collide with a second tree. The 32-year-old driver did not survive the crash. This case is pending investigation.
