Hendry County will be spraying for mosquitoes over the LaBelle Acres, specifically, Case and Evans Roads, and LaBelle Ranchettes and Alphabet Roads Communities. Spraying will continue through, Monday, September 27th. These operations will continue throughout the remainder of the year as mosquito levels warrant. The insecticide to treat for adult mosquitoes is approved for application by the Environmental Protection Agency and the State of Florida. 

Crime Stoppers of Palm Beach County is searching for Carmen Vasquez. Her last known address is E. 7th St., Pahokee. She is wanted on a VIOLATION OF PROBATION on an AGGRAVATED ASSAULT WITH A DEADLY WEAPON charge. In accordance with Chapter 775 of the Florida Statues, the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office is advising the public about declared Sexual Predator, 37-year-old Othlone Russ, who is now residing at 103 Pelican Lake Drive, Pahokee, FL 33476-3103.

Hendry County parents can now decide whether to quarantine their healthy student and keep them out of school, after they have been exposed on in contact with, a COVID positive person. The Hendry County School District has updated its Covid-19 guidance to match the states latest ruling. The parents now have the right to choose to send their child back to school, as long as they are symptom free, or they can choose to quarantine for no more than 7 days. Symptomatic kids are asked to stay home for 10 days or until they get a negative test. Education commissioner Richard Corcoran says it’s really all a matter of common sense. Saying kids have far too many absences to be missing school for nothing. Under the new rule, the only children required to quarantine are those that either test positive for COVID or who are symptomatic. The rule went into effect on Wednesday.

A Moore Haven man wrestled to the floor after trying to flee the court house.  Robert Mathias had been convicted of drug charges and tried to leave Judge Jack Lundy’s courtroom. Sheriff David Hardin honored bailiff, Rodney Houston for his quick actions. Mathias had been convicted at trial of throwing drugs into the water at Alvin Ward Boat Ramp during a struggle with deputies. 

Glades County Public Safety confirmed Wednesday, a stretch of State Road 29 between Hendry and Glades counties was shut down due to flooding. The road was closed from SR-78 and CR-74, between LaBelle and Palmdale. WAFC has just received confirmation that the road was still closed as of this morning. Please avoid that area. As of the latest report, an eyewitness caller confirmed that a portion of US 27 just South of Moore Haven, near the KOA sign, it’s not closed, but is flooded across the roadway.
