The Hendry County Board of County Commissioners met last night for their regularly scheduled meeting. The County announced that funds for Housing Assistance were available from Coronavirus Relief Fund. They received $240,768.00, according to the website, to assist citizens of Hendry County directly affected by COVID-19. According to County Administrator Jennifer Davis, an additional 50k was given by the SHIP program. Davis says 6 staff members are working to get applications approved daily. Davis says around 30 checks have been cut for businesses and individuals, and there is even the possibility of extending the December 30th deadline. No word at this time on exactly how much funding is left. A Clewiston man suffered serious injuries as a result of a vehicle accident that occurred Thursday, September 10 in Hendry County. The 34-year-old was traveling east on CR835 approaching HWY27 just after 4p. The driver of a truck tractor, a 68-year-old Broward County man was approaching the same intersection. The Clewiston man tried to make a left-hand turn when the front of the truck tractor hit him from the side, flipping his SUV. The truck tractor did not stop, colliding with several road signs before coming to rest. The cause of the crash has not been released.

Reunited but it doesn’t feel so good. A Belle Glade man and his female accomplice are reunited in custody and charged with homicide and burglary from an incident that happened in South Bay in June. On June 22, 2020, an Okeechobee woman Roykeria Wiley was arrested in connection with the murder, and Alex Brinkley was arrested, Wednesday September 9, 2020. Both are now being held in the PBC Jail on first degree premeditated murder charges with NO BOND. The victim’s name is withheld due to the family’s action of Marsy’s Law.  

 Crime stoppers of Palm Beach County is searching for Jerome Watson. His last known address is SW 4th Street Belle Glade. He is wanted for failure to appear for Xanax possession and being unlicensed while carrying a concealed weapon. You may have heard helicopters in the area yesterday morning. Glades County Sheriff David Hardin’s office announced Thursday, Sept. 10, 2020, that nine people were arrested during a investigation of illegal drug trafficking coordinated with the Drug Enforcement Agency. Hendry County, specifically Clewiston, was also an active area for search warrants and several arrests as well. Both agencies say these were long term narcotics investigations that have now come to a close. No word yet from Hendry County authorities on the name and numbers of arrests. But we are expecting detailed release from the DEA very soon.

A precautionary boil water notice has been issued to South Shore Water Association customers West of Clewiston city limits. This area will be without water for 4 to 8 hours beginning Monday September 14 at 9 a.m. This includes Flaghole, CR720, Uncle Joe’s Fish Camp and Sportsman’s Village. When the water comes back on, residents are advised to boil water, bringing it to a rolling boil for one minute, if used for cooking or drinking. This notice is effective September 14 at 9 a.m. and includes Flaghole, CR720, Uncle Joe’s Fish Camp and Sportsman’s Village, and will remain in effect until the water is clear of bacteria.
